Corinne Burt is the head trainer and instructor at Bottomley. She believes horsemanship and dressage are interrelated - that it is impossible to excel in one without the other. Her approach is unique in that she blends classical dressage and horsemanship techniques to enhance the horse/human relationship, and the performance of both horse and rider. Corinne's training techniques also provide students with exceptional leadership skills outside the arena.
Parents of her younger students notice significant, positive changes in the way their children engage with the world. And adults - from attorneys to C-level business executives - describe breakthroughs in their riding and relationships with their horses, and often find her tools valuable in their professional and personal lives.
Burt's experience spans a lifetime with horses starting at the age of five. As a junior, Corinne studied hunters and equitation at Fairfield Hunt Club in Fairfield, Connecticut. Since moving to California, she has ridden with Melle Van Bruggen, Claus Bergener, and other highly respected dressage trainers. She established her foundation in horsemanship principles while working as an apprentice to master horseman Dennis Reis.
Corinne specializes in Iberian horses with five Andalusians and one Lusitano currently in training. Four of the five Andalusians come from Yeguada del Lago, RMC (horsesofspain.com), a highly respected breeder near Barcelona, Spain with whom Bottomley has developed a relationship over the years.
Corinne has taught professionally since 1990 and trained professionally since 1998 and is certified by the American Riding Instructor Association. She is currently bringing along two of her own young horses.
Beginning in January 2007, look for Corinne's regular "Connexions" column in Ride! magazine, where she will write about the dressage/natural horsemanship connection.

"Taking lessons at Bottomley has helped me improve my overall form, my attitude, confidence, and has taught me a completely new way to look at riding for the better. What I like best about Bottomley is that the methods are much easier for me to relate to and I like them a lot better than anywhere else I have ever learned."
