Training

MKG Dressage/Martha Gregory provides an environment in which all individuals on all types of horses, with all types of abilities can flourish - a place to learn the art of dressage and keep it an art.

Whether you are an active competitor wishing to work your way up the levels, or a rider simply wishing to improve their expertise and improve their horse, MKG Dressage has a service to meet your needs. MKG Dressage offers a program to support the needs of all levels of horses and riders from novice through FEI. Possibilities range from individual lessons to full training that provides a comprehensive program for horse and rider.

Other services include longeing and ground work, show preparation, and coaching at shows. Martha herself is a seasoned competitor able to provide a wealth of "ring craft" knowledge to provide excellent preparation for those students wishing to compete

Martha is also available to teach at other select locations around the Bay Area, including Milpitas and Saratoga.

Training Philosophy

Martha has worked with many breeds, ranging from Arabs, Andalusians, Quarter Horses, Friesians, Lippizans, Thoroughbreds, and Warmbloods, with the occasional Clydesdale and Saddlebred.

She recognizes the special needs and personality differences of each breed and individual, and tailors a training regimen for each specific horse.

She favors a gentle, precise style that clearly indicates to the horse what is wanted without overfacing them. While many of her students ride lovely warmbloods, Martha loves working with non-traditional dressage breeds and showing people what a difference dressage can make.

Riders also come in all builds and abilities, and the training regimens are tailored to each rider's capability and riding goals.

Martha has helped riders achieve those goals, ranging from those wishing to compete at state and national championships, to those who wish to simply trail ride safely and improve their horse's health and well-being.

Martha brings outstanding communication skills to her teaching, by using a consistently structured, orderly approach for both the horse and rider. She possesses a BA in English with emphasis in Educational Psychology, and spent years in the

corporate world as a Senior Technical writer creating end user documentation, training manuals and tutorials.

This background enables her to be articulate and expressive in her teaching style, in order to communicate sometimes elusive concepts in multiple ways for a rider's understanding.

In addition, she has an extensive knowledge of biomechanics for the rider, to assist with perfecting the rider's seat and position throughout the levels. Years ago Martha underwent a series of back problems resulting from long hours in front of a computer, and culminating in spinal surgery. The process educated her about many aspects of chiropractics, physical therapy and orthopedic effects on both young and older riders. As such she is extremely vigilant regarding the correctness of a rider's seat and position, and knowledgeable about how to maximize their abilities even though they may have existing health problems.
